Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu in a middle class Muslim family, his father’s name was Jainulabdeen. Those who used to rent their boat to the fisherman by profession and they were neither very educated nor very rich. Kalam had five brothers and five sisters. They lived in a joint family. His father had a great influence on Kalam’s life that his father used to do his work diligently, which greatly influenced Kalam.

Born in a middle-class family, it was the dream of a child that one day he would become a pilot and measure the infinite heights of the sky. To fulfill one of his dreams, he even sold the newspaper, continued his studies in Muflis and finally, struggling with financial constraints, the boy got higher education and appeared in the recruitment examination for the pilot. Even after passing that examination, he could not be selected, because only eight pilots were to be selected in that examination and his place was ninth among the successful candidates.

He was a little disappointed by this incident, but he did not give up. It was the miracle of his determination that one day he achieved such a height of success, in front of which the flying of ordinary pilots seems very insignificant.

By providing many missiles to India, that person made it so strategically successful that the whole world came to know him as “Missile Man”.

After this, a day also came when that person rose to the highest post of India. The person rich in miraculous talent is none other than Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, whose life story is not less than the story of an interesting novel.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, whose full name is Abul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, Abdul Kalam along with his father used to bow their heads in the Shiva temple on the way while going to study Nawaz in the mosque. In the midst of this Ganga-Yamuni culture, Kalam read the lesson of secularism.

Education Of APJ Abdul Kalam

After Kalam received his initial from the primary school in Rameswaram, he matriculated from Schwartz High School in Ramanathapuram. Later he moved to Tiruchirappalli for higher education.

He received his B.Sc degree from St. Joseph’s College there. Received a Diploma in Bacnic Engineer from MIT in the year 1957. In the last year he was given a project. In which he had to prepare a design of the aircraft within 30 days, otherwise his scholarship would have stopped. Kalam completed it in the stipulated period.

He made his own aircraft in the Tamil magazine ‘Ananda Vitkan’, wrote an article titled which got the first position. After B.Sc. in the year 1958, he obtained a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology.

Work Of APJ Abdul Kalam

After completing his studies, Dr. Kalam entered the Hovercraft Project and Development Institute. After this he joined the Indian Space Research Organization in the year 1962, where he successfully played an important role in several satellite observation projects. While staying here, he established the Rocket Engineering Division at Thumba. Seeing his achievement, he was sent for training in ‘NASA’.

After returning from NASA, India’s first rocket ‘Naik Apache’ was launched under his direction in the year 1963.

On 20 November 1967, the successful launch of ‘Rohini-75’ rocket took place under his direction. He was also instrumental in building the first indigenous satellite launch vehicle SLB-3 in India as Project Director. Rohini satellite was successfully launched into space in July 1980 from this launch vehicle.

In 1982, he returned to the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization as a director and focused all his attention on the development of guided missiles. The credit of successful test of Agni missile and Prithvi missile also goes to him to a great extent.

In July 1992, he was appointed Scientific Adviser to the Indian Ministry of Defence. Under his supervision, India conducted its second successful nuclear test in Pokhran on 11 May 1998 and joined the list of nuclear-armed nations. His specialty was to integrate different systems while working as a scientist. He created new equipment using space and tactical technology.

Availability Of Abdul Kalam

In view of the achievement of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Government of India honored him with ‘Padma Bhushan’ in the year 1981, followed by ‘Padma Vibhushan’ in the year 1990. He has been honored with the honorary degree of Director by more than 30 universities around the world.

In the year 1997, the Government of India honored him with the country’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’. He was also awarded the Aryabhatta Award of the Astronautical Society of India and the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration. He is the third President who has received this honor even before becoming the President. The other two Presidents are Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Dr. Zakir Hussain.

In the year 2002, the Presidential Democratic Alliance government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee made Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as the presidential candidate. The opposition party Congress also supported him and on 18 July 2002 he was elected President of India by 90% majority. In this way he assumed office as the 11th President on 25 July 2002. He held this position till 25 July 2007.

He was the first scientist to beautify the Rashtrapati Bhawan. He is also the first President who remained unmarried. During his tenure as President, he visited many countries and gave India’s message of peace to the world. During this he toured all over India and through his lectures did an important job of guiding and motivating the youth of the country.

Despite limited resources and difficulties, he gave India a height in the field of space research and missiles. He was rich in versatility. He has composed many books in Tamil language which have been translated into many languages ​​in the world.

In addition, he has authored several inspirational books such as ‘India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium’, ‘Ignited Minds: Unlearning the Power within India’, ‘India My Dream’, ‘Wings of Fire’, ‘My Journey’ ‘, ‘Superpower India’, ‘Indomitable courage. His famous works are ‘touches Akash’, ‘sound of India’, ‘Turning Point’ etc.

‘Wings of Fire’ is his autobiography, which he wrote in the style of guiding Indian youth. His book has been translated into many Indian and foreign languages.

He believes that India has not been able to reach the victim of relative advancement due to its backwardness in the technical field, so through his book ‘India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium’, India’s development level in the field of science by the year 2020. Provided a unique approach to the countrymen to do the cutting edge. This is the reason that they are very popular among the new generation people of the country.

He died on 27 July 2015 in Shillong. There is no hope that the people of India, taking inspiration from his life and his works, should fulfill his dream of bringing India into the category of prosperous countries by the year 2022.
